Feature Adoption Study
A four-to-six-week field study of how a named group of people discover, try, keep, or drop specific features inside a productivity app.
Who it is for
Product managers, research leads, and founders who ship calendars, task lists, note apps, document editors, or email clients and need a clear picture of which capabilities survive beyond the first week.
What you leave with
A written adoption brief that names which features stay in daily use, which are opened once and left, and which never surface in ordinary work. The brief is meant to be read in a product meeting, not filed as a slide deck nobody returns to.
Scope
We agree a short list of features (usually four to eight) and a defined user group. We then watch first-week behaviour, sit with people while they work, and interview those who skipped or abandoned a capability. We do not audit the entire product, rewrite the interface, or run a marketing survey.
Who runs it
Led by Amina Rahman, with a second researcher present for observed sessions. Interviews are conducted in English; Malay can be arranged when the participant prefers it.
How the weeks run
- Week 1 — Kickoff and recruitment. We confirm the feature list, write the screening notes, and schedule sessions.
- Weeks 2–4 — Fieldwork. Observed sessions, first-week diaries where useful, and interviews with people who skipped a feature.
- Week 5 — Synthesis. We map each feature against what people actually did, including the workarounds they already trust.
- Week 6 — Brief and briefing. You receive the written brief two days before we sit with the product group.
Place and preparation
Kickoff and the final briefing can be held at No. 43A & B Jalan Sg 1/9 Taman Seri Gombak, or by video if the product group sits outside Selangor. Observed sessions happen where the person already works.
Send a short list of features, a description of the intended user, and access to a staging or production account if observation requires it. Do not send a backlog of fifty items; we will cut it together.
Limits
We do not record screens without written consent. We will not study features that handle payroll, medical notes, or other records we are not cleared to see. Studies pause around major public holidays in Malaysia when recruitment drops.
Fee
Most studies of four to eight features sit between RM 12,800 and RM 21,000, depending on how many observed sessions you want and whether travel outside the Klang Valley is required.
Next step
Write to us with the app, the features you are worried about, and a rough window. We reply with whether the work fits, and a proposed start week.
